As you browse through all of the different platforms and ways that the Ad Operations department can track website traffic, you'll notice different terminology used to describe the pieces of code used on websites to monitor, trace, and track user behavior.
The difference between these terms
They're different terms, but they all serve a nearly identical function: Tracking website traffic. Pixels, tags, codes essentially mean the same thing.
Pick one and go with it if you're confused about which term is used for each platform or tracking system. All of our digital advertising professionals will know what you're talking about.
Similar function - different platforms
While tags, pixels, and tracking codes are of a similar collective noun, we need to generate codes for each ad platform and system that your client is utilizing.
As an example, if your client is running ads on Facebook, The Trade Desk, and needs to track "conversions" as part of the campaign, you would need to request the following:
- Facebook Pixel
- The Trade Desk Pixel
- Google Analytics tracking code
